Danny and Willa Ellis, local philanthropists, donated Ellis Park, located on 12th Street across from Fort Scott Middle School, to the City of Fort Scott and Bourbon County. The land currently houses two baseball/softball fields and a soccer field.

In addition to the existing fields, the plan for the new park includes an 18 hole miniature golf course, sand volleyball, batting cages, jogging/walking trail, picnic shelters, outside basketball courts, picnic areas, restrooms, playground area, landscaping, and parking.

Our funding will come in the form of in kind, private donations and grants. Our first fund raising effort will be a community project. We have recently entered the Guinness World Records for the “Longest Chain of Coins”.

"The longest line of coins on record had a total length of 55.63km 34.57miles and was made in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia using 2,367,234 20-sen coins. It was laid by representatives of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Malaysia and Dumex Sdn Bhd on 6 Aug 1995."

We have since verified that this has never been done in the USA.  We will be a USA first!!  FORT SCOTT KANSAS WORLD RECORD HOLDERS; Our achievement will be finalized on July 11, 2008.

We have also entered for the fastest time in laying one mile of pennies.  The current record held is 2 hours 26 minutes and 7 seconds.  Will we beat this on July 10, 2008. Come Watch!

Guinness will be here to adjudicate both achievements.

Why pennies?
Everyone can donate, if they want.  Ages 1-101 have pennies. 
This is a chance for everyone to be a part of something BIG.  When was the last time you can say that you were a part of a Guinness World Record?

Is this all we are doing?
No way.  We are processing numerous requests from the community and are actively working  on projects for our Youth.

The penny campaign launches March 19, 2008. We will begin laying 40 miles of pennies on July 7-11, 2008.  Guinness World Record personnel will be present on July 10 and 11to adjudicate our accomplishment.
